If you ever needed further evidence that most media people are morons, today CNN and it’s reporter Wolf Blitzer invented something new to panic people and boost ratings: Flammable Helium:

I am guessing that not one single person, in front to the camera nor behind it, passed eight grade science class, and understood the difference between Helium and Hydrogen, nor the basic concept of an “Inert Gas.” Nor can they read a Wikipedia page:

Keep in mind that these are the same people who feel fully qualified to explain climate change and to run presidential debates. In the next year, these same people will bring us countless stories, mostly about politics, all with this level of “accuracy.” Notice that the goal of this report, like most of the others they make up, is to spread fear, and this is because fear boosts ratings, and big ratings is what pays Wolf Blitzer millions of dollars a year, to invent flammable helium. Every hour of your life listening to these fools and their industry of bullshit is a waste you will never get back.

Not only that, Montour Co is no way near where they show it on the map. It landed near Muncy, PA. This is near Williamsport, close to the center of the state.
Every time some aviation related event occurs I just shudder at the thought of what the press will dream up to fill air time and print space. I was just relocated and was living in a motel with a very poor TV channel selection when MH-370 dissappeared so I watched a lot of the CNN coverage to fill my down time. I must say that I was sickened by erroneous comments made by people who actually had aviation related experience. Given that these persons who know something about aviation would make such horribly inacurate statements, is it any wonder that the media is even worse ?
For those who did not know what was going on with the runaway blimp, it was dragging over 6000′ of cable as it floated along and that cable shorted out a lot of power lines which made a real mess of the local utilities.
Darn I was really planning on running flammable helium in my phase 4 heads. 🙂
The press is so irresponsible and biased anymore I don’t even bother with them. I just enjoy my life with my wife, kids and friends and hope that I can instill a good work ethic and some fortitude in my children.

Whenever I happen to surf past a “news” channel and feel compelled to watch I no longer consider it wasted time, rather time spent becoming more enlightened to the complete ignorance and incompetence of the liberal media who, by the way, made a mockery of the GOP debates. It seems almost comical until you realize that the majority of people buy this BS as unbiased truth at which point it becomes disturbing.

I think it really doesn’t matter about the network nor the bias, the people in that trade have no understanding of how the world works outside a tv studio. After the Japanese tsunami, I watched a 15 minute fox segment on how the USS Enterprise had detected radiation off shore. The anchors kept going on about how the sailors were at risk because ” They had no training to deal with nuclear radiation.” Evidently no one in the studio understood that CVN-65 is powered by eight reactors, probably had 50 warheads on board and was designed to fight in WW-III, always assumed to be a nuclear battle. No matter how they posture themselves, none of these people are an information asset to the public.
I laughed entirely too long when I heard them say that. After the laughter subsided, I had to sit in silence for a bit to subdue the rage that is generated by listening to people on the news.
I cant wait for the DiHydrogen Monoxide scare to resurfaces again! You have to be very careful not to drink that stuff!

Why would the US military use their ultra secret “flammable helium” for their balloons when the non-flammable type is so much safer?
And don’t forget that nasty hydrogen hydroxide. It’s like sodium or potassium hydroxide but much worse. Dissolves a LOT of things, almost like a universal solvent.

I couldn’t believe what Wolf Blitzer said about helium, I nearly fell off my chair. Just another talking head. Oh the humanity! I worked on tethered aerostats for 14 years and always fielded questions about the differences between hydrogen and helium gases. Say hi to Grace.

I went to the reference that W.W. mentioned. I did not see any reference to Blitzer or to flamable Helium. Where was that? I read it twice, I must be filtering the info out, eh?
