I enjoyed CC1 very much. I attended two more colleges after that spread out over the years.
It was quite rewarding to hear my engine run for the first time as many of you have found out for yourselves. I highly recommend attending a college. You will obtain more information and assistance than you can imagine.
I have plans to purchase and build a kit plane in the not too distant future, but it is not possible at this time. I have not decided on a type or brand yet. I really want a 1/3 to 1/2 scale ‘warbird’ replica, such as the T-51, WAR kit, etc. I am intrigued by the prospect of possibly using a CORVAIR engine when the time comes. Since cost is the biggest issue for me, the Corvair looks to be a real winner in the sky and the bank account. Lycoming, Continental, Rotax, are a bit pricey for my blood. I live in NC and would like to come as an observer & potential customer to the event planned for November 2016 in SC. This would only be a 1/2 day drive or less away, for me here in NC.
As an avid observer, would I be allowed to come and watch the build process first hand?

About 1/3 of the people at a college do not bring an engine, they just bring their conversion manual, a notebook and a camera. They are on a reconnaissance mission, and their goal is to learn as much as possible. Some of these guys don’t have an engine yet, others left theirs at home, because they want to take in the big picture, and do their actual work at a slower pace in their own shop. Works either way, sign up we will be glad to have you.

Looking forward to the Barnwell event in November. Just acquired a couple of cores and will be starting the disassembly process very soon. My goal is to be able to install crank and cam and close the case while there.
My airframe is not set just yet, but I’m leaning toward a scratch-built hybrid J3; modified to be 2-place sxs with generous baggage area. (Reference the new Rans S-20 Raven, but I can’t afford that!)

The S-20 was introduced at Oshkosh a while back, about 100 feet from our booth, it caught my eye also as a well proportioned plane, alas, as you point out, it is not priced for the grass roots aviator. -ww.
I believe that was 2013. I flew my first homebuilt, a TigerCub (think single-seat J3, 65Hp 2-stroke) from Medina to Oshkosh that year. Best thing I’ve done in my life! I talked to you in your booth (you won’t remember) for a few minutes and told you that we’d be getting together in the future as I wanted to build the engine for my next one. I’ve been following you for almost 10 years and I’m ready to “enter the Arena” once again. Your philosophy. Your ethics. Your wit. It all makes sense to me! My project will be simple, safe, and lots of fun! The time is now.
